about

Written in a bathroom in Pueblo Colorado at about midnight sometime in the autumn of 2012, this song came to be out of too much work, too little sleep, and a bigtime breakdown in neurotransmitters.

lyrics

Where you been my dopamine
My dopamine my darlin?
Where you been my dopamine
My dopamine my darlin yeah
I've been working way too hard
I've been sleeping in the car
Dunno how I got this far
Without you
Ignoring even my own health
Not a moment to myself
Spending all my mental wealth
Till my brain turns out its empty pockets
(chorus)
What did you expect to find
Crouched on the corner of heart and mind
But a former god who begs for wine
And mercy
One last coin on the velvet green
Gone like a stranger barely seen
But still the echo of her silver sheen
Is burned into your optic nerve
(chorus)
No matter how we think or feel
The eye wants us to blindly kneel
And put our shoulders to the wheel
Of histry
And those who break down on the way
Are exiled from the light of day
Or told to wish it all away
With therapies and medications
(chorus, repeat to coda)
